A contingency fee is just what it sounds like - a fee that is paid contingent upon money being awarded. If no money is obtained by the lawyer in the case, then the client does not have to pay an attorney's fee. These include emotional distress, pain, inconvenience, loss of consortium and loss of enjoyment of life. Non-economic damages are generally limitless, but there are exceptions under California law.

Without knowing the facts of the case, it is difficult to give an easy answer. As a general rule, the less serious the injury, the quicker the case will end.
